WordPress 5.9 is now available and we’ve made updates to each of our themes to maintain compatibility. These theme updates mainly concern block styling. Changes were made in WordPress 5.9 that required us to update our styling for blocks in the editor and on the frontend.
Update: Church Content plugin 2.6 was subsequently released on January 31 to resolve an issue with WordPress 5.9. Exodus 3.3.1 was released to resolve an issue with the Gallery template.
We’re celebrating our sixth birthday this month. ChurchThemes.com launched as an independent theme shop in September of 2013. We’ve been committed to creating a continually smooth experience for you over these six years. In fact, we’ve released 190 updates to our themes and plugin during this time. We have more updates for you today and I also want to share with you about our new theme and work on a sermons plugin.
It’s starting to feel like Spring down here in Texas. How fitting it is then that we just finished our “spring cleaning” with regard to our themes and plugins. Various bug fixes, improvements and compatibility changes have been made to keep your website running smoothly.
Very recently we released updates to make our themes ready for WordPress 5.0‘s Gutenberg block editor. WordPress has released two updates to improve the block editing experience since that time. We have also been working to polish support in our themes for blocks in the new editor. Mainly this has meant adding additional styling for blocks in consideration of their various options.
WordPress 5.0 was released just over a month ago and includes the new Gutenberg editor. We’re happy to report that our themes and plugins are all compatible. We’ve also updated our guides and videos to match the new interface. Here’s what you need to know about using this powerful new feature.
Updates have been made to most of our themes and plugins to address minor issues discovered after our recent major releases (see Church Content Pro Released, New Packages Available). All in all, the major releases went really smooth. These updates will polish things off. Please refer to the changelogs linked below for what has been fixed.

WordPress 4.9 has been released. We tested all of our themes and plugins with it before its public release and identified a couple of issues that needed to be addressed. As such, we released updates for all of our themes to keep things running smoothly on your church’s website. The Church Content plugin does not need an update as it is already compatible with WordPress 4.9.
Version 11 of Apple’s Safari desktop browser for macOS was released a few days ago. Apple made a change that affects how background video is automatically played. This broke background video in our Saved and Maranatha themes.
We’ve released Saved 1.1.1 and Maranatha 1.5.1 to fix this problem. An issue with Saved showing linked images with an underline was also fixed.
A video background has been the single most requested feature for our Maranatha church WordPress theme. I’m happy to tell you that this feature is finished and ready for you to add to your church website.
